Daughters of Charity

"And the king answering shall say to them: Amen I say to you, as long as you did it to one of these my least brethren, you did it to me."

Matthew 25:40
Daughters of Mary

The Ministry of Daughters of Charity was initiated many years ago, actively participated in helping the needy and the desolate. In January 2013, the Ministry was formally established, and was confirmed by Fr. Awraha, our Parish Pastor and the Episcopal Vicar for the Diocese of St. Peter the Apostle in Northern California.

Their name, Daughters of Charity, was chosen after the "Daughters of Charity" which was founded in 1633 by St Vincent de Paul, a French priest, and St Louise de Marillac, a widow. It is a Society of Apostolic Life for women within the Catholic Church, and an Order of nuns devoted to carrying out our Lord’s call to mercy and kindness to the less fortunate.

As such, the Ministry members share a deep virtue- a spiritual sense and passion to help the needy, which in itself is the product of their faculty. Their mission is to partnership with our Parish, crossing the boundaries of culture or any other faith affiliations when providing to the deprived. In this authentic act, they bring to light the essence of Charity- authentic compassion to seek Christ.

The members, diverse in their expertise and vocations, apply their God given means and talents in carrying out their mission. Active in their corporal and spiritual works of mercy, they seek Christ in places and in people which are neglected and or even forgotten. In addition to visiting nursing homes and homeless shelters, they facilitate fundraising events and spiritual retreats as another venue of evangelization, so to take the message of our Lord a step closer every time, in every person.

"Lord, help me to make time today to serve you in those who are most in need of encouragement or assistance." St Vincent de Paul.
