The Assyrian - Chaldean Food Festival

6th Annual Assyrian - Chaldean Food Festival

It was indeed a festivity of love we celebrated on Saturday and Sunday, 14th and 15th of September, 2013, with our families and friends along with guests who travelled from near and far, so to join us in our Annual Food Festival. The two-day celebration brought to light our heritage through the appetizing aroma of our ethnic-cuisine, the vibrant colors of our cultural apparel, our traditional music and Folkloric Dances, but more so through our genuine and infectious hospitality.

One of the highlights of the festival and for first time this year was the participation of our newly established SMYLE Jr. Ministry, the extension of the outreach mission of our Youth Ministry- SMYLE. When Davina, a member of our SMYLE Ministry was asked about her reflection on this event she responded; it was amazing! "The Ministry members spent weeks collaborating to develop a schedule filled with a series of stimulating and fun activities, entertainment, along with delicious home-made treats and the refreshing SMYLE's own special lemonade-recipe.

The SMYLE booths offered various activities such as taking a throw at the dunk tank, making your masterpiece whether it was with play-dough, sidewalk chalk on the asphalt, or decorating cupcakes. The children worked hard during the festival, working behind the booths making lemonade as well as rehearsing for their amazing dance performance during the festival. Throughout this experience children are reminded that they were serving God, and simultaneously learning leadership, teamwork, organization, humility, servitude, and creativity. At the end of the day, the food festival proved to be a success, based off the smiles, laughter, and the satisfied appetites."

Even more so, through these stimulating activities, the children were given an opportunity to learn about the Apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ. As SMYLE members began to teach the children about each of the 12 Apostles, inspiring them to design stepping stones with their own model of the emblems of each of the Apostles, a dedication they offered honoring the Saints, and as a special tribute to our Lady of Grace, as they will be set in her garden.
