First Awesome Women's Retreat

Saint Matthew Women Retreat

St. Anthony Retreat in Three Rivers, California, was the destination where we, the Worship Committee of St. Matthew Parish facilitated an outstanding retreat on the 10th through the 11th of September 2011, through which we provided the parishioners who journeyed with us an opportunity to deepen their experience in meditation and prayers in an atmosphere of silence and solitude, the inspirations we all experienced will resonate with us, as its clearly reflected in these testimonies.

We arrived at the Retreat by 8:30AM, Father John who is a resident and Sister Daniel the facilitator of the group retreats greeted us. St Anthony Retreat is a quiet, comfortable facility cradled in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada Mountains, the gateway to Sequoia National Park. It has been there for 50 years and once was a place for Monks. Now, it is a place for individuals and organizations that need to be in the presence of the Lord. All of the participants including ladies from St Matthew Catholic Church, St. Mary Catholic Church, except Sister Rita from St Thomas Catholic Church, spent the weekend at this retreat.

After Breakfast we met in a conference room that was prepared for us, Sister Rita gave a short Bible Study then explained the meaning of Retreat, The Holy Rosary Prayer, The Holy Eucharist, and the importance of prayer, also the importance to spend time in silence with God. She spoke about our role as mothers, wives, and daughters in the Church. We then went into a beautiful chapel and prayed the Holy Rosary.

After lunch, we attended another meeting during which Sister Rita spoke about the importance of praying the Divine Mercy and the Holy Hour. We then met in the chapel again, we asked Father John to have the Eucharist out on the Altar (Monstrance Reliquary). This was the most beautiful silent time; we truly felt the presence of our Lord in this small chapel. In the evening, all the ladies sat together and discussed the trip and what each person was feeling.

Sunday morning we went to Holy Mass and Father John asked us to sing a Hymn in Assyrian. Before leaving the Retreat, we walked and prayed at the 14 Stations of the Cross, in Assyrian and in English. This concluded our amazing trip, which we will NEVER forget!!! We all felt like we were not on earth. We were all very touched by the prayer at the 14 Stations of the Cross. God willing we will be making another trip to St Anthony Retreat.
