The Seven Catholic Holy Sacraments

† Eucharist †

Special Ceremonies for Experiencing
God's Saving Presence; an outward sign of an inward Grace

"19And taking bread, he gave thanks, and brake; and gave to them, saying: This is my body, which is given for you. Do this for a commemoration of me. 20In like manner the chalice also, after he had supped, saying: This is the chalice, the new testament in my blood, which shall be shed for you." Luke 22:19-20

EucharistThe Sacrament of Holy Communion is the reception of Christ's Body and Blood. It is because God so loves the world, Jesus offers Himself, Body and Blood, in the Eucharist so that we may encounter the fullness of the banquet- the foretaste of the Divine banquet we will celebrate with Him to eternity. It is the third of the three sacraments of Initiation.
This sacrament is the source of great graces that sanctify us and help us grow in the likeness of Jesus Christ; it is the ongoing nourishment and the celebration of our unity.

Meditation
PrayerDo grant, oh my God, that when my lips approach You; I may taste the gall that was given to You.
When my shoulders lean against Yours; make me feel Your scourging.
When my flesh is united with Yours, in the Holy Eucharist; make me feel Your passion.
When my head comes near You; make me feel the crown of thorns which You wore.
When my heart is close to Yours; make me feel the lance which wounded You.
Amen.
