"Behold, I stand at the gate and knock. If any man shall hear my voice and open to me the door, I will come in to him and will sup with him: and he with me." Revelation 3:20.

Our Reflection on WYD Rio 2013

Every two to three years, a location is chosen to host World Youth Day. In the year of 2013, Rio de Janeiro welcomed Pope Francis to celebrate World Youth day from July 23rd to the 28th. World Youth Day is a day that was initiated by our Blessed Pope John Paul II, as a time to unite youth from all over the world to deepen their faith and relation with Jesus Christ. During such a time, youth are given the opportunity to have a close encounter with the Pope as he shares wisdom, insight, and passion. With every passing day, individuals have the tendency to go through their daily routine without time to reflect about their life, actions, and faith. On the 3rd day of World Youth Day, Pope Francis addressed the youth and posed questions to have them, and all of us, reflect and meditate upon, walking beside Jesus Christ that Friday evening. What have you left on The Cross? What has The Cross of Jesus left for you?

What have you left on The Cross? Jesus Christ bore the weight of The Cross that carried the sins of the entire human race. From His Passion, He Is able to console those who are troubled, those who are fearful, and those who are suffering. Those who have faith know that they never have to walk the path of life alone. Especially during a time of strife, remember that Jesus HAS and will ALWAYS be there to bear that heavy weight that may trouble your mind. I leave my troubles, fears, and suffering on The Cross, with the confidence that I walk alongside Jesus Christ my Lord. What about you?

What has The Cross of Jesus left for you? We always touch The Cross and feel a blessing, but let’s meditate more on what The Cross leaves us with. We are left with a sense of relief, a feeling of purity. When Christ takes away our problems He gives us joy, and that’s what I feel when I touch The Cross. When I kiss The Cross, I kiss His feet because I am not worthy to kiss His cheek. He is our God and yet, seeing Him on The Cross, I see my God suffering, so I am left saddened because I know what put Him there. Christ Loves us and He wants us to love Him the same way, so when we touch The Cross, let us remember that He Loves us, and that He touched our hearts, and that’s why we are in His Church today.

"Better to illuminate, than merely to shine, to deliver to others contemplated truths,
than merely to contemplate.". St. Thomas Aquinas
