Santa's Workshop for SMYLE Jr., 2013

"I have shewed you all things, how that so labouring you ought to support the weak and to remember the word of the Lord Jesus, how he said: It is a more blessed thing to give, rather than to receive." Acts 20:35.

St. Matthew Youth Learning and Evangelizing Ministry, SMYLE, hosted Santa's Workshop; a special Christmas event for our children's Ministry SMYLE Jr. The foreground of this event was set in place months ago, as an extension of their curriculum, Project Disciples, which teaches our kids that it is always about remembering to do what Jesus would do, for it is indeed better to give than to receive. It allowed the kids to put in practice what they have been learning through our Faith Formation Sunday sessions. Our children, for the first time, gathered around to wrap the gifts rather than to unwrap them. And instead of rushing to Santa and his bag filled with gifts, they rushed to take their gifts to Santa, so to fill his empty bag. After all, it is exactly what Santa's helpers would do; seeing these beautiful gifts and blankets taken to kids who need them the most.

It was a sight too serene to be overlooked by anyone, as our beloved Davina pointed out; "I was pleasantly surprised at how selfless and excited the children were to put their efforts in tying the most beautiful bow they were able to create with their own two hands. It was amazing to see firsthand the happiness it brought to the faces of many of SMYLE Jr. to be giving instead of receiving, and lending a helping hand.".

Then, they all gathered around Santa, as he began to narrate the beautiful story of The Manger, The Crèche, where we were all given an opportunity to contemplate on the real meaning of Christmas. It is always wonderful to give each other Christmas Cards that remind us of The Baby of The Manger, but on that day, we saw the Nativity scene in play, and so ever clear became the anticipation of Christmas Day.

In Christ and Mary,
